FlightSimSocial is a logbook and community for flight simulator pilots, run by FlightSimBuilder LLC in San Diego, California (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use flightsimsocial.com and the FlightSimBuilder Hub connection, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect what's needed to run your logbook and the community features. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use analytics or advertising trackers.

What we collect

Account details. Your email address and password. Passwords are stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, account identifier with that service, and profile photo link. We never see your Google or Facebook password, and we don't post to Facebook or read your friends list. How to remove that data: see Data deletion.

Profile. Your handle, display name, bio, profile photo, home base airport, and any photos of your sim setup you add.

Flights. For each flight you log, whether automatically through the FlightSimBuilder Hub or by hand, we store:

  • the aircraft and registration, the simulator, departure and arrival airports, and times, duration and distance;
  • performance figures such as altitude, speed, fuel burned and landing rate;
  • the route your simulated aircraft flew, plus any notes and screenshots you add.

Route data comes from the simulator. It is not your real-world location.

Community activity. The pilots you follow, the likes and comments you post, the airport photos you upload, and the airport ratings and reviews you give.

Messages. Direct messages you send and receive, who you've blocked, and any messages you report. Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation, though we may review a reported message to deal with abuse.

Hub connection. When you pair the Hub software with your account, we store a connection token (in hashed form) and when the Hub last connected. Short-lived pairing codes expire automatically.

Technical information. Our hosting provider records standard request logs, which include IP addresses and browser details, to keep the service running and secure. For Hub pairing we keep a hashed form of your IP address to limit repeated attempts, and delete it within about an hour.

How we use it

  • To run FlightSimSocial: your logbook, statistics, profile, the feed, airport pages and maps.
  • To draw route-map images of your flights.
  • To send account emails, such as confirming your address and resetting your password, and notification emails about messages, comments, likes, and new followers. You can turn notification emails off in Settings or with the unsubscribe link in any of them. We don't send marketing email from FlightSimSocial.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.

Where privacy laws such as the GDPR require a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you asked for (contract), on our legitimate interest in keeping it secure and working, and on your consent where we ask for it.

What other people can see

FlightSimSocial is a social site. Your profile, your public flights (with their route maps, statistics and screenshots), airport photos you upload (credited to your profile), your airport reviews, and your comments, likes and follows are visible to anyone, including people who aren't signed in. Search engines may index them.

Flights you set to private are visible only to you. Unlisted flights don't appear in feeds, lists, or search results, but anyone with the link can view them. Screenshots and route maps are stored at hard-to-guess web addresses; if you make a public flight private, someone who already saved an image's address may still be able to open that image. Airport reviews you write are public and show your name and star rating. A star rating without a review only counts toward the airport's average. Your email address is never shown publicly.

Who we share it with

We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers to run the site:

  • Supabase holds our database, sign-in and file storage, hosted in the United States.
  • Vercel hosts the website and its request logs.
  • Resend delivers our emails. It receives your email address and the email's contents.
  • Geoapify draws route-map images. It receives route coordinates and airport codes, but no account details.
  • Google handles sign-in if you choose “Continue with Google”.
  • OpenStreetMap provides map tiles. They load directly in your browser, so OpenStreetMap's servers see your IP address.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of FlightSimBuilder, in which case this policy would continue to apply.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is open.

  • When you delete a flight, it and its screenshots and route map are removed immediately.
  • When you delete a comment, it disappears from the site immediately and is permanently erased within 30 days.
  • When you delete your account (Settings → Account & security), your profile, flights, files, comments, likes, follows, airport photos and reviews, and conversations are deleted immediately. Deleting a conversation removes it for the other pilot too.
  • Copies in our automatic backups expire within a further few weeks.

Your choices and rights

  • You can edit your profile and flights, and change each flight's visibility, at any time in the app.
  • You can download a copy of your data and delete your account yourself, in Settings → Account & security. For anything else, such as correcting information, email support@flightsimbuilder.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
  • Depending on where you live (for example California, the UK or the EU), you may have extra rights: to know what we hold, to object to or restrict certain uses, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We honor these requests however they reach us, and we won't treat you differently for making one.

Children

FlightSimSocial isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security and where data is stored

Connections to FlightSimSocial are encrypted. Passwords and Hub tokens are stored only in hashed form, and access to our systems is restricted. No service is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Your data is stored in the United States. If you use FlightSimSocial from elsewhere, your information is transferred to the US.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. See also our Terms of Service.
